Music Video Tuesday: Shakira, Ok Go and Katy Perry

A certain global football event continues to dominate the world media and YouTube is no different. Shakira’s performance of Waka Waka (This Time for Africa) at the opening night ceremony clocked up a whopping 12.9 million views in just ten days.

We gave these guys a shout out last week on Facebook and have extolled their clever use of the video medium in previous posts so it seems fitting to include their latest stop motion creation for the track End Love here in our weekly video round up. Let loose from EMIs reigns they are allowing people to download the video for free from their website and using a clever competition mechanic to encourage people to upload it to their Facebook profiles - the fan who uploads the video and gets the most friend comments wins a snazzy new iPad.

The soon-to-be Mrs Russel Brand’s new single California Gurls is hot stuff on YouTube right now. Unlike Ok Go, she’s definitely a mainstream hit EMI will be banking on to bring in the cash for 2010. The video features a naked Katy astride a pink candyfloss cloud. And with Snoop Dogg guesting and every frame chock full of visual double entendres it’s no wonder California Gurls is pulling in the views.
